The 356 is the first of a line of cars that ensured the success and the financial solidity of the Porsche brand. It is the foundation on which the legend of the brand, made of genius and passion, was built. The initial design by Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche was good. The rear engine, the air-cooled 4-cylinder flat engine, the streamlined bodywork, the quality manufacturing, the whole package evolved with regularity, serenity and rigour, to the point that the current 911 has some of the ingredients that shaped the personality of the first Porsches. Called the Pre-A, the first series was an immediate commercial success in the United States and soon became the car of the stars. The legend was born. The 356 presented here is a B Super 90 model. Sold new in France at the Buchet garage in Poitiers, it is white and the interior is in brown skai. The history of this Porsche is quite interesting as it never left the countryside of central-western France since its introduction on November 12, 1962. It was first registered 686 HT 86 and then sold in April 1968 to a young man from Niort who registered it 75 JB 79. The Porsche had about 20,000 km on the odometer when Mr. C., the owner, was driving on a road near Niort and narrowly avoided a dramatic accident with an oncoming truck. The manoeuvre was brutal and the Porche fell into the ditch. No injuries were reported, but the car was damaged on the side and the owner could not afford the repair costs. Finally, the mechanic and garage owner recovered the 356 in order to rebuild it, but the car slept in the back of his garage for 20 years. In 1985, he sold it to another garage owner who stored the car without touching it either .... Until 2021 !
The little Porsche deserves today a real restoration, this one is almost complete except for some glass elements and small interior parts. The base is very healthy and the original engine is not blocked.
