1961 BMW R50S
High quality preparation
Reliable mechanics and improved chassis
Great look
Frame: 564641
French registration
It is not known yet at the time, but very quickly the BMWs will be catalogued as "best motor bike of the world"! Convinced that the press of the time was right, the temptation to improve the performance was too tempting...
This R50 S, nicknamed "the French one" because of its colours, has been deeply modified by receiving a 5 series engine on a 2 series frame. The engine is a R60 rebuilt in its original displacement. In thirty years of existence, the BMW Series 5 and 6 have imposed themselves as motorcycles in the long run. While the competition was moving towards performance, the Bavarian manufacturer preferred to refine its offer with accomplished and more robust motorcycles. That's what makes this transformation so interesting. The frame was treated then thermo-lacquered and a 5 series fork was fitted to replace the original Earles. If the seat is a "home made" typical of the café racers of the time, the tank is that of a 50cc Puch. The engine block and cylinder heads have been painted matte black to accentuate the sporty look. Powder-coated rims and new spokes, custom aluminium mudguards... all the custom codes are respected and perfectly adapted. The long stainless steel exhausts will not let you hear otherwise!
