1968 BMW R50/2
High quality preparation
Reliable mechanics and improved chassis
Great look
French collector's registration
Frame: 647236
The flat-twin is famous since 1923 and makes his machines recognizable at first sight. Eclectic collector and fine mechanic in his spare time, it's in 2011 that he starts transforming three bikes... just for fun!
This R50/2 is the first of the series. After removing the sidecar support, the whole frame was treated and powder coated as well as the cycle part (rims and swingarm). A 5 Series fork replaces the original Earles with, to improve the critical point of the R50s of the time, the addition of a Grimeca four-cam brake mounted on the MV Agusta at the time. As for the look, the custom-made mudguards are made of aluminium and the superb seat is covered with leather by a local upholsterer. If the bike develops a little more than its original 26 hp thanks to an engine preparation (camshaft, high compression piston and electronic ignition), its driving remains easy thanks to the flexibility of its twin-cylinder. Finally, two long stainless steel tubes of 4 cm in diameter replacing the original silencers let the engine breathe without sacrificing the ears of the passers-by! It should be noted that at its first release, this motorcycle received at the time of the Cups Moto Légende the 1st price of the Customs and the contest of look. Proof if it were still necessary to show it of the quality of this realization!
