1988 JAGUAR XJ-S CABRIOLET V12
5.3 litre V12 engine
Belgian origin
Nice condition
French registration
Chassis number: SAJJNADW4DA148587
After the fantastic image brought by the iconic E-Type, Jaguar is looking for a worthy replacement and is working on the XJ 27 project since 1969. However, it was not until September 10th 1975 that the new Coventry Grand Tourer was unveiled to the press. It was the XJ-S Coupé equipped with a 5.3 litre V12 engine developing 285 horsepower. The strong point of this charming coupe is its XJ sedan-inspired chassis, which favours balance and comfort, backed up by an appreciable silence, as well as generous standard equipment. As for the bodywork, Jaguar had a Targa-type convertible variant produced in 1983 by the English coachbuilder Tickford, called the Jaguar XJ-SC. Initially available with a 3.6-liter engine, this convertible version received a V12 in 1985. It is only in spring 1988, that is to say thirteen years after the release of the Coupé, that Jaguar officially presents a XJ-S V12 convertible entirely made with the assistance of the coachbuilder Karmann. The XJ-S of our sale is one of the 3,675 convertibles equipped with the famous 290 hp 5.3L V12 engine coupled to a 3-speed automatic transmission. In metallic red (original color, but probably repainted) with a black leather interior, it is in very good condition, and its road test was very conclusive. The original Jaguar cover is accompanied by the owner's manual, but the booklet is missing. A warranty document allows us to know that the car was imported from Belgium in the summer of 1996, when its odometer showed 75,632 km. Acquired by its current owner in 2018, it was driven infrequently, today totalling just under 98,000 km, which therefore appears to be its original mileage. The car was serviced in June 2019 and is now just waiting to take you for a ride to the magical sound of the Jaguar V12.
