1977 MGB «RACING»
Careful preparation
Ideal for beginners in HCV
Numerous invoices
Belgian registration document
Chassis n°: GNH5427921G
Engine n°: 18V 468 F - H 2234I
Archetype of the British roadster, the MGB was built between 1962 and 1980 in about 500,000 units (of which 150,000 coupés). It was for a long time the most produced convertible in the world, before being dethroned by the Mazda MX-5. Its commercial success can be explained in part by its elegant design, its simple and efficient mechanics (from Mk II onwards, it has a five-bearing crankshaft), and its economical use. It has also been successful in competition, at the Tour de France Automobile, the Monte Carlo or the 24 Hours of Le Mans...
The car we present here was acquired in 2013, in England, by a Belgian amateur wishing to compete in historic races. The car, a Mk IV, then strictly original, was then completely dismantled and prepared in the spirit of the factory car of the generous driver Barry "Sideways" Sidery-Smith. Retaining its original red colour and right-hand drive (ideal on circuits that, for the most part, turn right), it received a Safety Device roll bar, a compliant fibre hard-top and a serious preparation of the running gear and engine. Also note the very elegant Minilite rims that equip it. It seems that the car has had an FIA passport in the past, but some safety elements will have to be renewed today (seats, harnesses), while some parts, which are not compliant (aluminium radiator, rear gas dampers and ventilated brake discs) will have to be returned to their original state in order to claim the precious sesame. At the wheel of this car, its former owner took part in numerous open circuit races in Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps, Zolder), in the Netherlands (Zandvoort), but also in France (Croix-en-Ternois, Magny-Cours) and in England (Donington, Silverstone), as well as in a few rallies (Tour de Belgique, Midi-Minuit). This MGB, with its careful and thoughtful preparation, will allow its future owner to drive in demonstrations or historic competitions for a reasonable budget, and a maximum of pleasure.
