Known worldwide, the 500 has made the international popularity of Fiat. As famous as the Beetle or the 911, its fame is such that it has reappeared in recent years in the modern form you know. The very first Fiat Nuova 500 series was presented in Turin in July 1957. It was equipped with a 479cc air-cooled, vertical twin-cylinder engine, located at the rear, delivering 13 hp. From then on, Fiat increased the capacity of its twin-cylinder engine and improved the equipment of the versions that followed in the order of the letters of the alphabet. After the Normal "A", the Sport "B" and the Sunroof "C", the "D" version (simply because it was the 4th version) was unveiled in 1960. Then, at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show, Fiat launched the 500 F (because the letter "E" was attributed to an "America" finish of the 500 D). The latter received doors that opened against the wind, an enlarged windshield and an interior with a better finish. The success of the F version made the observers of the time say that the 500 had reached maturity and convinced Fiat to continue its career with the L and R versions until 1975.
The example we present corresponds to the last series of Fiat 500 R produced from 1972 to 1975. It was put on the road on November 6th 1974. Today, it is in a very good condition, its body has been completely repainted recently and its black leatherette interior has also been restored. The odometer now shows 45,850 km. Mechanically, it is equipped with a Fiat 126 A1.000 engine and a 4 speed manual gearbox. This little convertible works well, whether you are in town or in the country, its driving is pleasant and fun, it is finally very versatile. Presented today with an attractive estimate, our beautiful example constitutes a great opportunity to acquire one of the greatest myths of Italian production.
