FLAUBERT Gustave (1821-1880)

L.A.S. "Gve Flaubert", [Croisset 4 June 1861], to Ernest FEYDEAU| 2 pages in-8 on blue paper (slight marginal slits).
On Sylvie de Feydeau and on Salammbô.
"Thank you from Sylvie, my dear old man. I reread it for the 3rd time. - And as Louis-Philippe said with renewed pleasure. It was shared by my mother who read it before me, all with a breath before going to bed. It is neat & comical - & and in a very firm style. - & important thing (& not to be spat at) you want to see the end. It's fun.
As for me, I'm back to my boring chapter XII! full of political explanations & little things in the 3rd plan. - Which makes me write even slower than usual. Then I'm going to be disturbed for a dozen days. - Because the day after tomorrow I'm leaving for Trouville where I'm accompanying my mother who goes there for her business of interest. - After which I'll come back here and stay here. I can't wait to be done. Salammbô becomes a saw. - And the stay in Paris is intolerable to me because of that"...
Correspondance (Pléiade), t. III, p. 154.
