If François, Alix Aymé's son, is a real source of inspiration for his mother, children in general are a subject that the artist enjoyed representing. Whether asleep or awake, Alix Aymé manages to capture their innocence and sincerity through different mediums. In The Three Children, the artist chooses lacquer to immortalize these young models. The little girl with the ruff stands proudly upright, looking at the viewer, while the middle girl is pensive, with the little boy's head resting tenderly on her shoulder. This lacquer illustrates Alix Aymé's remarkable know-how. An ancestral technique that she discovered in Japan, the artist manages to work it with great finesse. Traditional colours such as black, red and brown are enhanced by new tones such as blue, the result of recent innovations made possible by Joseph Inguimberty, a professor at the Indochina School of Fine Arts. The great skill of the artist allows him to work with finesse and precision: the patterns of the dresses are particularly delicate. The bouquet of flowers brings a springtime touch and enriches this composition making it more than a simple portrait.
