PROVENANCE The General of the Armies Félix Georges LEBON (1845-1923), polytechnician and plenipotentiary for the French Embassy in Japan in 1872 and 1876. He played an important role in the development of Japanese artillery and was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun in 1879 and Commander of the Legion of Honour in 1903. He also represented the French government at the funeral of Emperor Meiji.
