Charles PERCIER (1764-1838)
Pen and brown wash drawing framed under glass. Project of a cradle for a child destined to the imperial family, probably Josephine of Leuchtenberg, daughter of Eugène de Beauharnais.
Jacob Desmalter executed a variation of this type of cradle, different in their respective trimmings. Among the known models we can quote the cradle of the King of Rome, preserved in the collections of the Château de Malmaison.
- Cradle of Josephine of Leuchtenberg, preserved in the collections of the Castle of Fontainebleau.
- Cradle of Marie de Bade, daughter of Stéphanie de Beauharnais, which was in the collections of the Napoleonic Museum of Monaco, then private collection. "An elm root cradle in the form of a pod, richly decorated with gilt bronzes, inside lined with another very light wooden pod (...), this cradle is fitted between two elm root terms surmounted by two gilt bronze heads, crowned with laurels, on three sides of each term are fitted antique torches and ribbons, the bottom with three palms (...) 3200 fr."
