NAPOLEON I'S BEDROOM FLOOR "MORCEAU"
Piece of floor which would come from the Emperor's bedroom at Longwood.
Captain Maréchal's first thought was to visit the tomb of Napoleon I who had been his Emperor when he was a child soldier in the naval artillery. From 1808 until 1813, he also wanted to see the apartments that Napoleon occupied. "This is the room where the Emperor died" said a guard, "this is the place where his bed was placed". "Well," said Captain Maréchal, "I want to have a piece of wood from this room. At the same time, he kicked the floor, broke a board and took a piece of it to France, which he kept preciously until this moment"
