About his succession as director of the Vienna State Opera.
[Mahler was appointed Kapellmeister in 1897, then Artistic Director of the Vienna State Opera| in 1907 he was dismissed. The conductor Alfred HERTZ (1872-1942), who seeks here to succeed him, had conducted the Breslau Opera from 1899 to 1902| he spent most of his career in the United States].
As far as the question of his succession is concerned, Mahler is completely excluded. He cannot even trust that the rumors in the newspapers are true. The best thing would be to contact the managing director as a candidate, possibly referring to him. He would then answer a question put to him. If he learns anything, he will let him know...
