Presented at the 1959 Paris Motor Show, the Panhard PL17 replaces the Dyna Z. Simple evolution, its lines have been brought up to date by Louis Bionier. Only the front and rear of its predecessor have been modified, the central cell remains the same and takes over the « suicide » doors at the front. Its silhouette, however, appears more slender thanks to its aluminum rods. Its name refers to the initials of the founders of the Panhard and Levassor brand and the number 17 is the addition of 5CV + 6 seats + 6 liters per 100 km. Regarding the mechanics, the PL 17 offers a flat twin of 851 cm3 developing 42 hp. Panhard will offer several versions of its PL 17 including a sedan, a convertible, a station wagon and a van. Very popular car, the PL 17 cost a little less than a Peugeot 403 and almost half as much as a Citroën ID 19. Original car by its engine and its very aerodynamic design at the time, the PL 17 was an honorable success. Its production will run from June 1959 to May 1965 with a total of just over 166,000 copies. This specimen is a PL 17 Tigre restored a few years ago and in good overall condition. It corresponds to the very first series of PL17s since it is an L1 type. It features a two-tone body with two shades of purple paired with an all-original cream interior. On the mechanical side, it is equipped with a type 1721 flat twin which will have to be restarted. Much appreciated for its originality, its performance and its modernity for the time, this example should not fail to seduce.
