Francophone and francophile, if Vu Cao Dam is forced to leave the capital for health reasons he does not leave his adopted country for all that. The milder and milder climate of the South of France convinced the artist who took up residence in Béziers between 1949 and 1952. If the south and it’s so particular light have always inspired artists, Vu Cao Dam manages to stand out with an innovative vision. Thus in Vue de Béziers, automne, the artist offers a city representation caressed by the autumn light. The strength of this work lies in the great mastery of the principles of Western painting. The three planes are arranged in a traditional way thanks to a perfect perspective.
If the subject and its treatment are similar to Western culture, silk painting remains specific to the Vietnamese origins of the artist and breathes a new freshness into a classical composition.
