Unpublished autograph note in ink by Pierre Louÿs, "the Imbecility of the Subject", on the pastoral tale of Daphnis and Chloé de Longus, 3rd century Greek author. "[...] Daphnis, a fifteen-year-old goatherd, has a herd of fifty goats that he keeps and doubles at each litter. He sleeps every night with thirteen-year-old shepherdess Chloe, who sees his rams. They want to unite and don't know that Lykaïnien has to reveal to Daphnis the secret of love. Could it be that such a silly subject in the world gave birth to Daphnis and Chloe? [...]».
