Cristobal Toral
Born in Andalusia to a modest family, Cristobal Toral began studying art at the School of Fine Arts in Seville, then continued at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. He graduated in 1964 and was appointed as an assistant. He taught for three years before abandoning teaching to devote himself entirely to a career as an artist. In 1969, he obtained a scholarship enabling him to continue his art studies in the United States. He then moved to New York, where the quality of his pictorial works and realistic technique soon earned him recognition on the international art scene. He now participates in numerous group exhibitions illustrating contemporary Spanish painting in the US and Spain. He represents Spain at biennials and exhibits regularly at the FIAC.
His deeply realistic work offers a raw representation of this reality. He does not limit himself to a direct depiction of the subject but adds a particular touch, an intense atmosphere that raises profound inner questions in the viewer.
