STRAUSS JOHANN FILS (1825-1899)

L.A.S. "Johann Strauss", 19 July 1892, to Fritz SIMROCK| 6 pages in-8| in German.
Long letter to his music publisher concerning the performance of his operetta
Fürstin Ninetta (it will be premiered at the Theater an der Wien on January 10, 1893).
His telegram to Prague gave him what he needed for the contract. Of course, a contract that suits him can be made if Schubert (theatre director) agrees to perform the opera for 1000 marks.
If Neumann agrees to withdraw with only 1000 marks, and Schubert agrees to give it, then they would agree.
Simrock would give the opera to Neumann under the condition that Schubert could perform it at the same time and at the same price... It is said that Neumann will arrive in a few days, and he hopes to meet him, especially as his brother-in-law Simon, in Prague, is arranging everything to Simrock's satisfaction, and happens to be a good friend of Schubert. It would be nice for him to get involved in Prague as soon as possible: it would be the first agreement since the Viennese show!!!! He wonders about Leine's motivations: to hold something in reserve, or whim? However, he was busy accumulating sketches, which would atone, with Simrock and all humanity, for the setting to music of Ritter Pazman.... He argues the interest of the case for Simrock.... It is better to give the opera in Prague, before Munich.
A success in Prague would have a greater impact on Munich, and he has more confidence in Prague than in Munich: Munich needs the results from Prague as well as those from Vienna... It would be unwise to rush into Germany's arms... The success in Vienna, with five sold-out performances, is still limited. Who knows how this will turn out! In any case, they should try to make the most of it, as the importance of the revenue can have a significant impact on their future business. Strauss would be less straightforward, with anyone other than Simrock....
