MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FÉLIX (1809-1847).
L.A.S. "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy", Leipzig 16 December 1839, to Élisa MEERTI "chez elle"| 1 page in-8, address| in French.
Mendelssohn had hired the Belgian singer Elisa MEERTI (1815-1878) for her concerts at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
"I have just found the instrumental parts of William
Tell's tune[by ROSSINI], so it will be this tune that I will ask you to sing at the next concert| but I think it will earn a lot if you also want to sing the recitative before it, & please have the bearer of these lines tell me if you agree. Perhaps you could also leave the air in A flat (a semitone higher than yours) as it is written| the effect will be greater, I am sure. I am with an infinite number of toads in my throat & the highest consideration for your devoted Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy".
