Ernst Gabor STRAUS (1922-1983), born in Munich, had fled Nazi persecution and studied Mathematics in Palestine at the University of Jerusalem, and after in the United States. In 1944, he became Einstein’s assistant at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, providing Einstein with the mathematical framework essential to the concepts elaborated by the physicist. In 1948, Straus was appointed professor at UCLA.
