D’Yrsan Valuation and Appraisal
Founded in the early 1920s by the Marquis Raymond de Siran de Cavanac, the D’Yrsan brand is part of France’s automotive heritage. It belongs to the golden age of cyclecars — those light, economical vehicles, first with three wheels and later four, which captivated motor sport enthusiasts between the two World Wars.
Based in Asnières-sur-Seine, the company operated from 1923 to 1930, and its name is a clever play on the surname of its creator.
From the outset, D’Yrsan distinguished itself through originality of design, combining comfort, lightness, and mechanical innovation. Most models were fitted with Ruby or SCAP engines, known for their performance and reliability. The brand took part in numerous exhibitions and competitions, notably the 1925 London Motor Show and the 1927 24 Hours of Paris, where it was praised for its efficiency and handling.
D’Yrsan enjoyed strong visibility thanks to its endurance trial successes, allowing the company to expand to the United Kingdom, where it opened a commercial branch in London. Despite this growth, the economic crisis and the gradual disappearance of the cyclecar market brought production to an end around 1930.
Today, surviving D’Yrsan vehicles are extremely rare, representing a symbol of the artisanal and sporting expertise that characterized France during the Roaring Twenties.
D’Yrsan – Market, Value, and Appraisal
D’Yrsan vehicles attract genuine interest in the classic car market. Their rarity, combined with their technical quality and historical significance, make them highly sought-after by pre-war cyclecar enthusiasts.
Rarity: Very few examples survive today, as most disappeared after the Second World War.
Estimated value: Depending on the model (three-wheeler or four-wheeler), its condition, restoration, and available documentation, a D’Yrsan can be valued between €40,000 and €90,000, or even more for an example in perfect condition or with a sporting history.
Valuation criteria: authenticity, known provenance, quality of restoration, presence of original components, and technical conformity with Ruby or SCAP specifications.
Collectors appreciate these models both for their historical significance and for their suitability for participation in vintage rallies or classic car events.
