Ben, the pseudonym of Benjamin Vautier, is a French artist of Swiss origin, born in 1935 in Naples. He lives and works in Nice, where he moved at the age of fourteen. During the years 1959-1960, the key figures of what would later be called the Nice School gathered in his shop or on the sidewalk outside. Close to Yves Klein and the Nouveau Réalistes, Ben is part of the avant-garde, specifically postmodern art, and the Fluxus group. He gained strong public recognition by the late 1960s, particularly through his "writings," which he explored in various forms.
The Contemporary Art Department at Aguttes Auction House regularly features works by Ben in its auctions, where they achieve significant results.
