Ansaldo was one of the most important industrial groups in Italy. After World War I, the company had to convert its aircraft engine factory in Turin. It was then decided to diversify its activities by manufacturing automobiles. The Tipo 4, introduced in 1919 and designed by engineer Guido Soria, was powered by a 1,847cc four-cylinder engine. In 1923, Ansaldo unveiled its first six-cylinder model: the 6 AN, with a displacement of 1,990cc. The brand appeared to have established itself in the automotive market when the group was split in 1927, and the automobile division was sold. With annual production ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 units, the surviving models from this short-lived brand are extremely rare.
