Commercialisée de 1970 à 1974, la Dodge Challenger rencontre
un franc succès, proposant un large choix de moteurs ainsi qu’une
longue liste d’options permettant une véritable personnalisation |
notre exemplaire est sorti des chaines de production de l’usine
Chrysler d’Hamtramck en août 1969. Elle a passé la majeure
partie de sa vie dans les contreforts de la Caroline du Sud et
entre dans la collection de son actuel propriétaire en 2013. Il
s’agit d’une version R/T pour road and track qui correspond à
la version la plus sportive. Il est accompagné de son manuel
d’utilisation et de sa fiche d’identité mentionnant la liste complète
des options.
Ce superbe coupé a bénéficié d'une restauration au début des
années 2010 : sa carrosserie a été entièrement décapée avant
de recevoir cette magnifique teinte FJ5 Sublime et son toit en
vinyle noir, tout deux conformes à la configuration d’origine |
l’habitacle a été en partie restauré conformément à sa sortie
d’usine.
Avant même de tourner la clé et de se faire ensorceler par les
vocalises de son puissant V8, notre exemplaire nous séduit
par son look agressif : à l’avant, les 4 phares et la calandre
chromée à l’inscription Challenger R/T donnent le ton, tandis
que le long et impressionnant capot présente un imposant
bossage, les inscriptions 383 Magnum ou les ouïes latérales
confirment cette impression de puissance. Les bandes latérales
aux inscription R/T suivent la ligne de caisse jusqu’à la poupe
qui arbore fièrement 4 sorties d’échappement.
Sous le capot on retrouve un V8 big-block 383 Magnum de
6,3 l développant 335 ch, associé à une boîte de vitesses
automatique TorqueFlite à 3 rapports | notre exemplaire est
équipé des suspensions Rallye et de jantes Rallye 15 pouces.
On notera la présence d’un système de climatisation et de la
direction assistée.
Environ 10 ans après son achat notre Challenger se présente
en très bel état de conservation, malgré quelques traces de
réparation (corrosion) à noter au niveau des bas de caisse et du
fond de coffre | l’entretien a été suivi par son actuel propriétaire
qui s’en sépare aujourd’hui à contrecoeur.
Marketed from 1970 to 1974, the Dodge Challenger was a great
success, offering a wide choice of engines as well as a long
list of options for genuine personalisation| our example rolled
off the production line at Chrysler's Hamtramck plant in August
1969 and spent most of its life in the foothills of South Carolina,
entering the collection of its current owner in 2013. It is an R/T
version for road and track which corresponds to the sportiest
version. It is accompanied by its owner's manual and an identity
card with a full list of options.
This superb coupé benefited from a restoration in the early 2010s:
the bodywork was completely stripped before being finished in
the sublime FJ5 colour and black vinyl roof, both of which are
in keeping with the original configuration| the interior was partly
restored to factory specifications.
Even before turning the key and being bewitched by its powerful
V8, the car's aggressive looks win us over: at the front, the 4
headlights and chrome grille with Challenger R/T lettering set
the tone, while the long, impressive bonnet features an imposing
boss, the 383 Magnum lettering and the side gills confirm the
impression of power. The side stripes with R/T lettering follow the
body line all the way to the stern, which proudly boasts 4 tailpipes.
Under the bonnet there's a 6.3-litre 383 Magnum big-block V8
producing 335 bhp, mated to a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic
gearbox| our example is fitted with Rallye suspension and 15-inch
Rallye wheels. It also features air conditioning and power steering.
Approximately 10 years after its purchase, our Challenger is in
very good condition, despite a few traces of repair (corrosion) on
the rocker panels and the boot floor. It has been well maintained
by its current owner, who is now reluctantly parting with it.
