Charity evening in support of the Christians of Iraq, Tuesday, April 2, 2024

The humanitarian association SOS Chrétiens d’Orient and Maison Aguttes invite you to support a noble cause through a charity auction in aid of the Christians of Iraq.

About the association
SOS Chrétiens d’Orient is a non-profit, non-political association of public interest that has been active since 2013 at the heart of crisis areas in the Middle East. Its teams work on the ground alongside Eastern Christians and persecuted minorities, providing concrete material and humanitarian assistance. Since 2013, 3,000 volunteers have taken turns serving in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Armenia and Ethiopia, living with persecuted families and carrying out reconstruction, resettlement and economic development projects made possible thanks to donors. Financially autonomous, SOS Chrétiens d’Orient operates in full independence. Its funding comes exclusively from private sources, which is why your support is essential.

Why take part in this project?
In 2014, the Christians of Bartella were forced to flee their homes abruptly to escape the Islamic State, which had invaded the Mosul region. Since 2016 and the liberation of the area, Christians have gradually begun to return to the land of their ancestors, where they now remain a minority. It is estimated that one third of the Christian population has gone abroad, one third remained in the Nineveh Plain, where they had taken refuge in 2014, and only one third has returned to their homes. The situation remains extremely difficult for these Christian families, who are now a small minority on their ancestral lands and continue to suffer from the trauma of the brutal 2014 invasion. In this context, the 5,000 to 6,000 Christians of the Syriac Orthodox parish of Bartella are in need of support.
Following assessments carried out in close cooperation with religious authorities, an essential project has been identified: the construction of a traditional hall adjoining the church, which will make it possible to celebrate the parishioners’ religious and family events.

By contributing to this event, you will be making a very concrete contribution to this project and enabling the parishioners of Bartella to celebrate their traditional religious events in faith, joy and safety.
This event will take place under the High Patronage of His Holiness Ignatius Ephrem II, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch, and in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Wadee Batti, Ambassador of Iraq, at the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Call for Donations
To support this initiative, we are seeking exceptional works and valuable items (art and collectors’ objects, paintings, jewelry, fine wines and spirits, classic cars, unique experiences, etc.) with an estimated value of over €2,000.
Individual donors will receive a tax receipt allowing a deduction of 66% of the estimated value of the donated item.
