In conjunction with the Brafa Art Fair, Aguttes is pleased to invite you to the exhibition of a selection of modern Belgian paintings that will be featured in the Impressionist and Modern Art sale on March 13, 2024. The highlight of this selection will undoubtedly be the gently archaic portrait of the young Adrienne De Zutter (Gustave Van de Woestijne (1881-1947) - Portrait of Adrienne with a Violin, 1920), violin in hand, by Gustave Van de Woestijne (1881-1947). This large canvas, dating from 1920, depicts the woman who would later become the artist's daughter-in-law by marrying his son Paul. Standing in an imaginary landscape, her gaze turned to the left, Adrienne appears absorbed in her thoughts, presumably musical. This work, considered by the artist himself as one of his masterpieces, follows another portrait of Adrienne from 1919, preserved at the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp (KMSKA) (inv. 2949). It also revisits the composition of the Portrait of Valerius de Saedeleer (1914), a painting that set the world record for Van de Woestijne in 2012. <img alt="" src="https://www.aguttes.com/uploads/Image/EXPOBR1.jpeg" /> Edmond Delescluze (1905-1993), The Garden of the Hesperides The exhibition will also feature a collection of works by Edmond Delescluze (1905-1993), husband of Suzanne Fabry and son-in-law of Émile Fabry. After studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, where he met Suzanne around 1923, Edmond naturally joined his father, Jean Delescluze, at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in 1934. He worked for several years alongside his father, preparing models, sets, and costumes. The canvases on display reflect the artist's prolific imagination, served by a vibrant palette and a confident drawing style. En contrepoint de la Brafa Art Fair, Aguttes a le plaisir de vous convier à l’exposition d’une sélection de peintures modernes belges qui figureront dans la vente d’art impressionniste et moderne du 13 mars 2024. L’œuvre-phare de cette sélection sera incontestablement le portrait doucement archaïsant de la jeune Adrienne De Zutter ( Gustave Van de Woestijne (1881-1947) - Portrait d'Adrienne au violon, 1920) , son violon à la main, par Gustave Van de Woestijne (1881-1947). Cette grande toile, au millésime de 1920, représente celle qui deviendra plus tard la belle-fille de l’artiste en épousant son fils Paul. Représentée debout dans un paysage de fantaisie, le regard tourné vers la gauche, Adrienne semble absorbée par ses pensées, que l’on imagine forcément musicales. Cette œuvre, considérée par l’artiste lui-même comme l’un de ses chefs-d’œuvre, suit un autre portrait d’Adrienne de 1919, conservé au Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten d’Anvers (KMSKA) (inv. 2949). Aussi, reprend-elle la composition du Portrait de Valerius de Saedeleer (1914), une peinture qui établit le record mondial pour Van de Woestijne en 2012. <img alt="" src="https://www.aguttes.com/uploads/Image/EXPOBR1.jpeg" /> Edmond Delescluze (1905-1993), Le jardin des Hespérides L’exposition comportera également un ensemble d’œuvres d'Edmond Delescluze (1905-1993), époux de Suzanne Fabry et beau-fils d'Émile Fabry. Après des études à l’Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, où il rencontre Suzanne vers 1923, Edmond rejoint naturellement son père, Jean Delescluze, au Théâtre de la Monnaie en 1934. Il travaille plusieurs années à ses côtés, préparant maquettes, décors et costumes. Les toiles présentées rendent compte de l’imagination foisonnante de l’artiste, servie par une palette éclatante et un dessin d’une grande sûreté.
