Auction SPOTLIGHT ON 1980s DESIGN Our next Design auction will take place on 29 February, with a special focus on the 1980s. A Suvretta bookcase by Ettore Sottsass, one of the doyens of twentieth-century Italian design, has already been announced for this sale. Ettore Sottsass never ceased to demand an emotional experience of objects, as if to free himself from the rationalism he had been taught at university. In 1981, he co-founded the Memphis collective, where he revived the themes he had been experimenting with since his superboxes of the 1960s: cheap materials, bright colours and kitsch motifs, of which the Suvretta bookcase, created that same year, is a perfect example. We are looking for pieces by Ettore Sottsass, Michele de Lucchi, Gaetano Pesce, Gae Aulenti, Andrea Branzi, Alessandro Mendini, Garouste et Bonetti, Martin Székély, Pierre Paulin, Tom Dixon, Marc Newson and many others. Le 29 février prochain, se tiendra notre prochaine vente de Design qui fera la part belle aux années 1980. Une bibliothèque Suvretta signée Ettore Sottsass, l’un des doyens du design italien du XXe siècle, est déjà annoncée dans cette vente. Ce designer ne cessait de revendiquer une expérience émotionnelle des objets, comme pour se libérer du rationalisme qui lui avait été enseigné à l'université.
