Trained under the Nabi Maurice Denis, Alix Aymé, the sister-in-law of Marcel Aymé, embodies the intersection of Asian and European influences. While exhibiting early in her career in French salons, her work gained significant recognition from informed audiences starting with the Colonial Exhibition of 1931. In the 1930s, she joined the School of Fine Arts of Indochina, where she taught in the painting and drawing section, contributing to the revival of lacquer art. In addition to her teaching activities, Alix Aymé showcased her artistic talent through numerous creations on various mediums.

Among them, silk is a medium she particularly favors. Requiring great dexterity due to its fragility and the impossibility of making repaints, silk belongs to typically Asian supports. The technique of using ink and colors on silk was developed and taught at the School. Alix Aymé brought her talent for color to this process.

In "Le Goûter," the artist employs a colorful and joyful palette. Yellow, blue, pink, and green blend skillfully, bringing cheerfulness to the composition. Drawing inspiration from indigenous models around her and objects in her studio, she immortalizes an enchanting vision of Indochina. Regularly sketching in her notebooks, she incorporates characteristic elements of her work here. The curtains and the window identify her studio, while the sleeping cat and the bouquet of flowers are recurring elements.
