Jean-Jacques Lequeu and Charles de la Fosse Celebrated at Aguttes

Aguttes auction house dedicates its spring sale to Old Masters, with a quarter of the auction focusing on drawings.

In the context of its sale dedicated to Old Masters, featuring around a hundred lots, of which a quarter are drawings, Aguttes presents two notable works on paper, including an Architectural Project for a Church created in 1820 by Jean-Jacques Lequeu. An artist rediscovered in the 1970s and brought to light again in 2019 at the Petit Palais during the exhibition "Jean-Jacques Lequeu, Builder of Fantasies." Estimated between 15,000 and 20,000 euros, the drawing bears witness to his knowledge of geometry, perspective, and the originality of his architectural visions. Also noteworthy is the Allegory of the peace treaty between Louis XIV, the Germans, and the Dutch. A preparatory study in black stone, red chalk, and white chalk executed this time for the decoration of a gallery at the Château de Choisy by Charles de La Fosse, expected to fetch between 5,000 and 7,000 euros.
