"Let's compare these jewels created between 1935 and 1938 by Suzanne Belperron for two clients with very different tastes. They seem to reveal certain facets of the personality of each of them.
On the one hand, this barrel clip in blond agate highlighted with black lacquer edging whose particularly modern shape is as sensual as it is innovative. While her inlays of sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds may seem a bit classic, Suzanne Belperron adds her final touch, an ounce of originality with the addition of yellow diamonds.
On the other hand, this green jadeite brooch engraved with leaf and lotus flower motifs that the designer frames with diamond-paved scrolls and punctuated at the ends with sugarloaf onyx cabochons.
By observing these jewels one dares to guess the personality of each of their sponsors.
The clip seems to have been created for a modern, avant-garde, free and liberated woman. The brooch gives the impression of having been designed for a more discreet, classic and refined woman.
The height of refinement on the ear clips matching the brooch; the diamond-paved return to the base of the rackets illustrates this inimitable chic taken to the extreme!
As Cecile Sandoz wrote in the San Francisco Sunday Chronicle in 1961, Suzanne Belperron designed jewelry that reflected the personality of its owners.
Nearly a century later, these jewels are witnesses to the style and character of the women for whom they were created..."
