ONCE AGAIN, AUCTION PRICES SOARED FOR ASIAN PAINTERS
A "WHITE GLOVE SALE” AND TWO RECORD-BREAKING SALES


 

France, Neuilly-sur-Seine, June 7th 2021 - The Asian Painters department of Aguttes held its 29th auction on Monday 7th June 2021. It highlighted artists from the Hanoi School of Fine Arts with a group of works carefully selected by Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier.

With a total of more than € 1.8 million (€ 1,838,100) the auction sale has tripled its low estimate and has set several record-breaking sales for Aguttes, the historical leader in this market.

 

"French and foreign buyers were very active in the auction room as much as on the telephone, and they confirmed the very strong interest in this new market, which is still surprising us" said Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier.

The masterpiece of the sale - and the second world record for the artist - a lacquer by Pham Hau (1903-1995), multiplied by 5 its low estimate and went up to € 833,000 after a long bidding battle between the room and the telephones.

A record-breaking sale for the artist Alix Aymé (1894-1989), Nu au lotus which seduced French, Hong Kong and Vietnamese bidders with a total of € 322, 600.

An ink and colours on silk with a family scene by Mai Trung Thu (1906-1980) found a buyer for € 106,600.

Another Alix Aymé artwork, Jeune fille, which testifies her craftsmanship in the art of lacquer, fetched € 78,000.

Finally, Le Pho rose to a total of € 297,700 with five paintings from the Romanet period. Le vase en opaline, seduced a bidder at €78,000. Le Pho plays with influences and combines the ancestral technique of silk with oil, a medium highly prized by Western artists. Le Pho's second painting, Bouquet de roses, quadrupled its estimate at €65,500.
