A LOOK BACK AT OUR SPRING SALE

Ten days ago, our Spring Sale took place, organised by the Classic Car department at Aguttes. Over the two public viewing days, enthusiasts could admire the 58 Formula 1 helmets and 64 cars listed in the catalogue. Taking into account the exceptional measures implemented by the government on the evening of Saturday 14 March, the Aguttes on Wheels team demonstrated tremendous resourcefulness and adaptability to ensure that the sale planned for the next day could still go ahead. This finally took place behind closed doors and bids were accepted by Maître Aguttes exclusively online or over the phone.

At the end of the auction, the arrangements put in place by Aguttes’ entire team appeared to have paid off. There was no shortage of bidders, as the fine results of the sale of Automobilia showed, with 100% of the helmets sold, reaching a total of 146,340 €, almost three times the amount estimated. After a brief pause, the sale of 64 classic cars began. The first of the three parts of the sale was a resounding success, with 21 lots sold out of the 24 on offer. The first part included in particular the Francis Staub collection, with its nine Facel Vegas, the ex-Claude François Mercedes 450 SLC and the Ferrari 400i once owned by the former Formula 1 World Champion Jody Scheckter. The Staub collection from Alsace achieved a very creditable 17/20 as it went under the hammer, and two further lots were sold after the auction, bringing the total sale rate to 95%! The Facel II which was not part of the Staub collection sold for 336,600 € including sale fees.

The auction continued, making way for the modern classics, before returning to a succession of unmissable models from the 1950s and 1960s, and even some cars from before the war. Among the results which will stay in our minds are the 72,280 € achieved by the D’Yrsan Course from 1923 (est. 45,000 – 65,000 €), the 64,992 € attained by the Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider (est. 60,000 – 80,000 €) or the fine result of the Porsche 356 SC, which sold for 82,900 € including sale fees (est. 60,000 – 80,000 €). The eagerly awaited collection of the late Jean Brandenburg could at last be presented. The first car on which bids were taken, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint 1600 GT, found a buyer (at 44,781 €), as did the Porsche 997 Targa 4S. The centrepiece of the Swiss collection, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ Coda Tronca, was universally acclaimed and changed hands for 670,380 €. It will remain in France and will soon resume its outstanding sporting career in the major events in the historic motorsport calendar.

Private treaty sales

Although it was a success, the auction held on 15 March saw some lots go unsold as they failed to attract high enough bids. The Classic Car department at Aguttes therefore gives you the opportunity to make up for this and acquire one of these cars. Among them are the Jaguar E-Type 3.8 FIA Coupé, the Chevron B8, the Ferrari 360 Modena Challenge Stradale or the Alpine A310 GTP known as the ”Poisson Dieppois”. To receive the list of cars which remain available for purchase or to find out more about the arrangements to buy one of them, please contact the department directly by email at voitures@aguttes.com or by phone (Gautier Rossignol: +33.616.914.228 – Clément Papin: +33.760.781.018 – Paul-Emile Coignet: +33.6.4.307.775).
