Distilled in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, this Chartreuse Jaune “V.E.P.” occupies a special place in the long history of the liqueur produced by the Carthusian monks.
That year, the monks decided to pay tribute to the start of her reign by producing a very special cuvée. On June 2, 1953, the day of the coronation, two distillates were produced before undergoing a particularly long aging process, at the end of which two thousand bottles were released for sale in 1966: one thousand bottles of the green liqueur (numbered from 1 to 1000) and one thousand bottles of the yellow liqueur (numbered from 1001 to 2000). Our bottle, in superb condition, bears the number #1920.
One of the oldest “Exceptionally Long Aging” vintages, a designation reserved for Chartreuses that have undergone a much longer than normal maturation process, this cuvée was bottled more than a decade later, after a long rest in oak casks, which had the effect of enhancing the aromatic complexity of the liqueur, thanks to the slow and delicate exchange with the oak.
This bottle is not only a rare and exceptional Chartreuse, it also celebrates both a solemn moment in the last century and the silent demands of secret, ancestral expertise.
Its commemorative nature and place in the distillery's history make it one of the most sought-after vintages by collectors around the world today.
