After publishing the book Modern Art in Indochina in early 2024, Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier, an expert in Asian modern art, will organize a cultural event in Hanoi on January 7, 2025, dedicated to deepening knowledge about the 1925–1945 period, focusing on the Indochina School of Fine Arts.

On this occasion, she will establish a Prize, which will provide finalists, students in art schools and universities in Vietnam, with an opportunity to take their first steps into the international art market.

On January 7 in Hanoi, collectors, art enthusiasts, artists, and history lovers in Vietnam will gather in the grand amphitheater of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier, who will host the event, chose this venue because the amphitheater was decorated in the 1920s by Victor Tardieu. The colloquium will feature three panel and will conclude with the presentation of the Prize. The event will bring together descendants of notable figures who played a significant role in the revival of modern Vietnamese art in the early 20th century, as well as key contemporary contributors.

Light on the History of Modern Art in Indochina – 10 Years of Shared Expertise in a Publication
Trilingual, this book lifts the veil cast more than seventy years ago over a complete chapter of International Art History. From Inguimberty to Alix Aymé, from Nguyễn Phan Chánh to Vũ Cao Đàm, passing through Mai Trung Thứ and Lê Phổ, professors or students, they draw, paint, sculpt, work with lacquer, and exhibit... Led by Victor Tardieu and later by Évariste Jonchère, this school experienced a period of artistic emulation between 1925 and 1945, which was the origin of the revival of modern Vietnamese art. Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier focuses here on explaining the key steps that allowed the emergence of the artistic elite envisioned by Tardieu, and sheds light on many of the dark areas that have until now concealed the richness and artistic significance of this period in Indochina.
