A Treatise on the Most Common Diseases and Specific Remedies for Their Cure, with Instructions on How to Use Them… Paris: P.-A. Le Mercier, 1727.

2 volumes in-12. Contemporary mottled tan calfskin, spine with 5 raised bands, fawn-coloured title label, stamped volume numbers, decorated panels, red edges (restoration to corners, caps and mouthpieces, scuffing on the edges, slight foxing, water damage affecting the text in vol. 2). New edition of this practical treatise, which enjoyed great success from its first edition in 1703. Handwritten ownership marks on the endpapers: “This book belongs to me / Dupuy, surgeon” and “This book belongs to me / Louis Alexandre Joseph [Annillet?], student of surgery / employed at the Naval Hospital in Rochefort. In Rochefort, 19 Prairial, Year ... of the French Republic”.

The book therefore appears to have passed through the library of Jean Cochon-Dupuy, a doctor at the port of Rochefort and founder of the first Naval Medical School in 1715 in the same town, which would later become the Rochefort Naval Hospital, and perhaps his son, before remaining, at the time of the Revolution, in the hands of a student himself working at that very hospital founded by Dupuy.
