-BOILEAU-DESPRÉAUX. Poetic Works. Paris, Hachette et Cie, 1889. Small square folio. XXXI-473 pp. Wine-coloured half-morocco with rear corners, ribbed spine, gilt title, paper covers, gilt head, front cover on blue paper preserved, cut and reattached to strong paper of the same colour (a tear on the first rib, slight rubbing of the paper on the covers). Beautiful binding, very well executed but with the signature erased. Edition printed in 201 copies; this one (no. 92) is one of the 100 on Imperial Japan paper with black engravings. Complete with all 23 plates, under titled borders, frontispiece, 6 in the text, by Edmond Lechevallier-Chevignard (1825–1902), engraved by L. Flameng, one tailpiece and 5 headbands. Etchings. 

-Ch. PERRAULT. Les Contes. Paris, Librairie des bibliophiles, 1876. 2 volumes in-16, 113 pp. and 183 pp., on laid paper. Contemporary brown morocco, raised spine, title and volume number gilded, place and date stamped at the tail, panels decorated with small ironwork, triple gilded fillet framing the covers, double gilded fillet at the edges, guilloché caps, inner roulette, gilded edges [E. Petit] (slight rubbing to the clamps, foot edges and corners, transfer marks from the plates, slight oxidation of the paper). Followed by a Dissertation on Fairy Tales by Baron Walckenaer. With 12 black etchings drawn and engraved by Lalauze, including the author’s portrait as a frontispiece. Unmarked copy on unbleached laid paper.

-STRAPAROLA. Les Facétieuses nuits… Paris, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1882. 4 small 12mo volumes. Light brown half-morocco with period corners, ribbed spine, tan title labels and volume numbers, date stamped at the tail, panels decorated with small ironwork, double gilt fillet on the spine and covers, gilt head, untrimmed [L. Pouillet] (slight rubbing on the caps and clamps, a few leaves in vol. 3 browned, slight stains on the title page of vol. 4). A very fine edition of *Piacevoli notti*, translated from the Italian by Louveau and Larivey. Illustrated with 14 plates, including 4 frontispieces etched by Eugène-André Champollion after drawings by J. Garnier. From the collection of the *Petite Bibliothèque Artistique*, printed in a small number of copies. Copy on laid paper.

- TASTU. New Poems. Paris, Denain and Delamare, [c. 1835]. 16mo, 378 pp. Period red shagreen, smooth spine, author and title gilded, large gilt metal fittings, gilt fillet at the edges, guilloché headbands, double blind-stamped fillet framing the covers, large central filigree gilt plate, roulette on the inside, gilt edges, corners skilfully restored (very slight rubbing on the cap and edges, faint foxing on a few pages, pages 157 and 169 missing). Title engraved on wood by Porret, 3 plates engraved by Mague after Tony Johannot, by J. Sands after H. Meville and by Lemaitre. Numerous vignettes at the top of pages. Attractive Romantic binding.

-SCARRON. Le Roman comique. Paris, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1880. 3 volumes in-8. Red morocco binding, spine with raised bands, title, author and volume number gilded, place and date stamped at the foot, decorative panels featuring a jester’s head in fleurons, triple gilt fillet edging the covers, triple gilt fillet on the covers, double gilt fillets on the edges and gilt endpapers, double endpapers of garnet silk and marbled paper, gilt edges on endpapers, cover and spine preserved [H. Blanchetière] (scuffing on the ribs of vol. 1, and very slight on the end caps). Illustrated with 10 etchings after Flameng, including a frontispiece. Printed in 220 numbered and re-imposed copies in-8, one of 20 on Whatman (no. 37), containing double proofs of the engravings, including one ‘avant la lettre’. Vicaire, VII, 403.

Paris, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1883. 2 volumes in-8, 306 pp. and 308 pp. Navy blue polished half-shagreen with period corners, ribbed spine, gilt title and volume number, place and date at the foot, panels decorated with small gilt ironwork, gilt fillet on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed [Canape-Belz] (spine slightly faded, slight rubbing at the bottom edges, small marginal tear p.289, slight transfer from the engravings). New edition of the famous translation by Loève-Veimars with a preface by Brunet. Illustrated with 11 etchings by A. Lalauze, including a portrait of Hoffmann as a frontispiece. Printed in an edition of 270 copies, one of the 170 on watermarked Holland paper, unbound. A fine copy, beautifully bound by Canape-Belz.

Grey-blue half-morocco with corners, spine with raised bands decorated with a gold dotted pattern, author, title and date in gold, panels decorated with small ironwork and edged with a double gold fillet, gold fillet on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed [Champs]. (spine slightly tarnished, some foxing on the plates). A fine portable edition from the “Petite Bibliothèque Charpentier” collection. Illustrated with 2 drawings by Ferdinandus, etched by F. Massé. One of 50 copies on Holland paper (no. 33), with the plates in two states, including one prior to the letter.

-LACROIX. Bibliophile Jacob. Tales… for his grandchildren. Paris, Louis Janet, [1831]. 2 small 2nd-size volumes, XLXII-299 pp. and 344 pp. Contemporary mottled fawn sheepskin, smooth decorated spine, green title and volume number labels, covers edged with a gilt roulette, gilt fillet at the cuts, marbled edges, spine and caps restored (scuffing at the corners, cuts and caps, some foxing, plates darkened by gum). First edition illustrated with 6 lithographs as inserts, including 2 frontispieces, and 2 title vignettes wood-engraved by Porret after Johannot. A copy in which the plates have been coloured and gummed, which is very rare, as Vicaire mentions only 3 copies in colour (on large paper). Vicaire, IV, 815.
