He has received your letter ‘concerning the neutrality of those in the five towns on the Navarre side’, and asks you to keep him well informed. ‘Moreover, I wrote to the King on the first day, asking him to order that money be taken to pay the captains’ wages […] And as for what you write regarding our neighbours’ needs at Behobie […] that they are bringing artillery there, I see no way of preventing them from doing so, since it is on their side, and for a long time their castle has been a stronghold for them; and as for building a stronghold for us on this side, you can see that this could not be done without very great expense […] the King has ordered that it should incur as little cost as possible, pending his affairs.
