Paris, Debure, son-in-law of the late d’Houry, from the printing house of the Widow d’Houry & Debure, 1790.

Small 8vo. (32) pp., including an interleaved calendar of blank leaves totalling 694 pp. Contemporary red morocco with plate-embossed covers, floral motif in the spandrels; ribbed spine decorated with gilded fleur-de-lis panels; gilded title and date; gilded edges; gilded scrolls on the fore-edge and back cover; blue half-leather endpapers. (A few pinholes and foxing, a lateral tear without loss to a page at the end, corners slightly rubbed, minor repairs to one corner and at the top of the upper spine, which must have been split for a few centimetres).

A beautifully decorated binding featuring one of Dubuisson’s rarest plates, with animal motifs intertwined with lush vegetation: exotic birds, palm leaves, flowers and serpent-birds; a floral-patterned metal plate has been added to the spandrels. Opposite the title is the engraved label of the stationer selling the almanacs, ‘A la Teste noire’, Rue de la Verrerie, Paris 1756, Monsieur Larcher, stationer to the King’s Estates…
