GAUDRIOLE.
Rare. First edition of this autobiographical and burlesque account. A man of many adventures, imprisoned on several occasions for gambling debts or offensive remarks, Charles Coypeau d’Assoucy (1605–1677), known as Dassoucy, left behind numerous literary works as well as musical compositions. A festive and libertine poet, traveller, accomplished novelist and musician, he was a friend of Molière and lover of Cyrano de Bergerac. A gourmet and hedonist, he gives pride of place to the refinements of the table in his work. A curious woodcut portrait of the author in black illustrates the frontispiece. A fine and elegant binding by Thibaron-Joly.
