A fine letter from Agostino Adorno’s brother, Governor of Genoa, to Lodovico SFORZA, Duke of Milan, following the French withdrawal from the Kingdom of Naples. He sends his faithful personal cupbearer, Antoine Escorcefic, ‘to the court in Rome’ ‘for certain matters of ours which greatly concern us and which we wish to be dealt with favourably, as we now write to the Governor of Genoa, our dear brother, and to the city’s elders’. He asks his friend to place his cupbearer ‘under special recommendation regarding his affairs and in case he may require a safe-conduct or letters of safe passage’, with his brother and the Elders, ‘and furthermore to lend him a helping hand in securing the return of a house of his which is being wrongfully and unjustly withheld from him’…
