(8)-XVIII-450 pp., with an allegorical frontispiece engraved in black and a large, fold-out bust portrait of the Princess of Wales, to whom the work is dedicated, engraved in black with a burin; title in red and black and (5)-VII-370 pp., tables. Engraved vignettes including a large typographical vignette with a portrait of Erasmus; text entirely framed by an engraved border; fine margins.

Contemporary red morocco with large coats of arms embossed in the centre of the covers, a gilded garland as a frame and floral irons, crowned aleryons and lions (figurative elements of the arms) in the spandrels, gilded edges, gilded roulette and fillets on the edges, blue silk moiré endpapers, gilded garland on the spine (covers very slightly and discreetly rubbed or with small scratches, a discreet tear at the top edge of volume I, slightly rubbed joints at the spine, minor rubbing on the edges, a small stain at the fold of the front cover of volume I, a few small foxing spots or scattered stains, first quire slightly out of alignment in Volume I, a discreet wormhole at the foot of the spine of Volume I, a minor tear at the side of folio Z3, text cut out and removed within the page margins on a few quires in Volume II, pp. 305–354).

A fine volume in a beautiful red morocco binding bearing the coat of arms of Charles II Frédéric de Montmorency-Luxembourg, Duke of Piney-Luxembourg and Duke of Montmorency (Hôtel de Montmorency-Luxembourg, known as the Hôtel de Rivié).
