Quarto, (3) folios, 225 pages, plates. Red morocco, spine with four raised bands, author and title in gold, endpapers edged in morocco decorated with gold and blind-stamped bands, red satin linings and endpapers, edges gilt on endpapers, cover and spine preserved [Barnicaud] (spine slightly faded, one band rubbed).

An illustrated edition comprising 12 heliogravure plates based on drawings by Chas Laborde.

Limited edition of 500 copies: one of 15 on Japanese paper (no. 9, second paper after a single copy on Chinese paper), containing a black-and-white sequence on Japanese paper. Signed by Carco on the margin.

Beautiful autographed copy signed by the author, “To Henry Lavoisier, thanking him for loving this book”, with an original black-ink drawing of a man’s profile smoking.

A fine, well-bound copy.
