A lovely collection of family correspondence about his early days as music director in Aachen. The letters, tender and affectionate, are addressed to his parents, Ernst von Karajan (1868–1951) and Martha von Karajan, née Kosmac. He discusses his concerts: Verdi’s Requiem (“it was a fantastic performance”), Brahms’s Concerto with the violinist Georg Kulenkampff, and the operas he is conducting: Tannhäuser and Lohengrin.
