A beautiful illustrated edition based on drawings by François Thévenot. It features six etchings by Louis Muller, as well as numerous woodcut vignettes within the text, including headpieces and tailpieces.

One of 130 on extra-strong China paper, numbered 125, the second paper edition following a single copy on vellum and 10 on Japanese paper. Enriched with a triple set of Muller’s 6 etchings with remarks, including two in black and one in red chalk, the latter signed by the engraver on each plate, and a pre-letter set of woodcuts. Enriched with 11 additional plates, including a portrait of Zola as a frontispiece, etched by Albert-Duvivier after Édouard Dantan. These plates illustrate the edition of this story published in 1884 by the Librairie des Bibliophiles and are printed on Japanese paper. A portrait of Zola as a frontispiece, 6 etchings by Louis Muller and numerous wood-engraved vignettes within the text, including headpieces, half-pages, tailpieces, a vignette on the title page, the covers and the spine. Limited edition of 691 numbered copies. One of 130 copies on extra-strong China paper, no. 43, the third paper grade after a single vellum and 10 Japanese papers, numbered at the press from 12 to 141. Copy enhanced with a double black-and-white suite of Muller’s 6 etchings with remarks, and a suite of the woodcuts on China paper.
