Tobacco-coloured morocco, spine with raised bands decorated with gold dotted lines, author, title, place and date in gold, panels decorated with a floral motif featuring an arch and quiver and bordered by a triple gold fillet, a dotted line, nine fillets and a scroll framing the covers, all in gold, double gold fillets on the caps, guilloché edges, interior lace, edges gilt on endpapers, untrimmed, two illustrated covers, one of which is pink silk, and spines, preserved [Bretault].

A perfect copy in a delicate original binding by Bretault. The edition features an etched frontispiece by Gaujean, a silk cover (the laces were not retained by the bookbinder) and another cover on fine Japanese paper, both illustrated, as well as numerous vignettes within the text based on drawings by Paul Avril. One of 100 numbered copies on Japanese paper, this one marked “reserved” in the publisher’s own hand and bearing his signature. Contains a second state of all the illustrations, printed on Japanese paper. Autographed copy signed by the author “to my dear colleague of the Bibliophiles contemporains”, the recipient’s name added in another hand: “G. de Montoyon”.
