Large 4to, (5) leaves, including 3 blank, 200-(1) pp., (2) leaves, including 1 blank, on watermarked Arches des Vosges paper. Modern garnet half-morocco, smooth spine, gilt title, blind-stamped fillet on the covers, pearl-grey velvet paper linings and endpapers, gilt headband, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved (one plate appears to be missing; the folding section of the map is loose and reinforced on the reverse).
Remarkable illustrations by the artist. An illustrated edition comprising eight colour etchings by Mariette Lydis, printed in colour, including a frontispiece and a highly decorative colour fold-out map of the city of Mien, signed in pencil by Lydis; numerous engraved initial letters, including three illustrated ones, one at the beginning of each book. A fine copy with wide margins, printed on vellum paper bearing the ‘Cent Une’ watermark. The print run was limited to 101 copies numbered in Roman numerals and 10 copies numbered in Arabic numerals.
