Small 8vo, (5)-32 pp. in French and Italian, comprising 32 folios, on laid paper. Green long-grain morocco, smooth spine decorated with flowers and fleurs-de-lis and double gilt fillets, gilt title, gilt fleur-de-lis scroll and gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt coat of arms embossed in the centre of the covers, gilt edges, gilt dots on the edges, gilt scroll on the fore-edges, pink paper endpapers (some oxidation on the first few leaves).
Bilingual work with dual pagination.
A fine copy belonging to the Count of Artois, the future Charles X.
A private edition of this opera for the performance given before the king on the occasion of the marriage of HRH the Duke of Berry, his son, to Marie-Caroline de Bourbon, Princess of the Two Sicilies, the future famous Duchess of Berry.
For the occasion, copies were bound in the same manner for the family, with only the colours varying (the morocco leather of the new Duchess of Berry, for example, being lemon-coloured)
Very rare. Only one copy in the CCFr (BnF).
Balocchi (1766–1832) was a highly regarded playwright in his day, best known today for the librettos he wrote for certain Rossini operas, notably *Il Viaggio a Reims*, *L’Assedio di Corinto* and *Mosé*.
