Paris, Jouaust, Librairie des Bibliophiles, 1887. 8vo, XLIV–226 pp. Lemon-coloured morocco, ribbed spine, gilt title, place and date stamped at the bottom, compartments decorated with gilded and mosaic fleurons, double frame of triple gilded fillets on the covers with mosaic fleurons at the corners, double gilded fillet on the headbands and footbands, gilded interior lace, gilded edges on the endpapers, cover and spine preserved [Condition] (spine slightly tarnished, joints slightly rubbed, one rib and lower headband slightly rubbed). A fine illustrated edition featuring 15 vignettes at the head of each chapter and 6 tailpieces, all etched by Adolphe Lalauze. Limited edition of 215 copies: one of the 15 first copies on heavy Chinese paper (no. 9), reprinted in 8vo, containing two pre-letterpress plates, one of which is not listed in the colophon. One of the plates from the first vignette is signed by the artist.

Red half-morocco with corners, ribbed spine, title, author and date in gold, panels decorated with small ironwork, gold fillet on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed [See Margins] (slight rubbing to the corners, faint stain on the title page and lower endpaper, bookmark mark on p. 80-1). Illustrated edition with six steel engravings by Edmond Hédouin after his own compositions, including a portrait of the author as a frontispiece. The text is adorned with wood-engraved initials. Copy on unbleached laid paper, very well bound by Champs.

-MONTESQUIEU. Persian Letters. Paris, Jouaust, Librairie des bibliophiles, 1886. 2 vols. in-16, XVIII-214 pp. and 262 pp., on laid paper. Lemon-coloured half-maroquin with corner pieces, spine ribbed with title and volume number in havana, date stamped at the tail, panels adorned with a central havana-coloured mosaic fleur-de-lis surrounded by small gilt irons, double gilt fillet bordering the panels and covers, gilt heads, cover preserved [Meers Engel]. (spine slightly tarnished, interior fresh, a few transfers from plates). A fine copy. The illustrations consist of 9 plates engraved by Émile Boilvin, including a frontispiece portrait of Montesquieu after Saint-Aubin, the others after drawings by Émile de Beaumont. The text is adorned with wood-engraved headpieces and initials. Copy on unlined Holland paper.
