T he Citroën SM alone represents the dream of an era when automotive elegance and high performance went hand in hand. Let us not forget that in the early 1970s, speed limits did not exist on the French road network. The SM was born at a time when speed was a selling point and gasoline was cheap. Unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, this Frenchstyle «Super Car» is a success with a line designed by Robert Opron. It is ahead of its time both in terms of technology and its futuristic line. The SM presented here is a fabulous car, both in its presentation and in its history. There is no shortage of superlatives about it: Gold Leaf Color AC 319, all the options including air conditioning, electronic injection... and an owner from 1973 to 2013! It was purchased new by Mr. Résal, test pilot for Dassault aircraft. He took part in the first in-flight refuelling tests aboard a Vulture, before being entrusted with the management of EPNER from 1960 to 1962. Jérôme retraite en 1986. Il décède le 12 février 2013 à Bordeaux et conservera SM jusqu’à la fin de sa vie. Il entretiendra avec une rigueur très particulière sa voiture. Elle est arrêtée en 1995 alors que le compteur affiche un peu plus de 73 000 km. A son décès la voiture sera mise en vente par sa famille puis acquise par monsieur et madame R. Le moteur sera révisé, les tendeurs de chaînes revus et la voiture prête à reprendre la route en 2017. C’est aujourd’hui dans cet état d’origine « concours » que nous découvrons la SM. Dans la boîte à gant se trouve un émouvant carnet de bord dans lequel le pilote annotait tous ses déplacements, ses moyennes de consommation et les frais d’entretien de sa SM. Lors de l’essai, le compteur passera la barre des 75 000 km ! Moment d’émo
