D'APRÈS BENVENUTO CELLINI (1500 - 1571 - FLORENCE)

Perseus brandishing the head of Medusa

Bronze with brown patina. 19th century

Height: 90 cm

The original bronze statue, measuring more than five metres, was commissioned in 1545 by Cosimo I of Tuscany to consolidate his power and ensure the triumph of good over evil. Considered as the artist's masterpiece, it joins at the time in the Piazza delle Signoria the most beautiful sculptures of the Italian Renaissance such as Michelangelo's David.
