Following the fashion of the powerful, the taste for bronzes found a significant development in the first half of the 18th century. This pair of mythological statuettes, particularly significant of this craze and proposed by the Mercier merchants to a discerning clientele, was cast by means of sand casting, the usual process of the Parisian workshops that mastered this technique for furniture bronzes before extending it to the realization of more ambitious groups such as those presented here.
